Charleston Ranks #6 Best City to Start a Career in the U.S.
WalletHub just released their latest ranking of the best cities to start a career, and Charleston came in at #6 out of hundreds of cities nationwide. That's ahead of Pittsburgh, Knoxville, and a lot of cities most people would assume rank higher.
The overall score of 64.12 puts Charleston solidly in elite company — behind Atlanta, Orlando, Austin, Tampa, and Miami, but ahead of everyone else. What's notable is how Charleston got there: #7 in Professional Opportunities and #19 in Quality of Life. Most cities that rank well on jobs rank poorly on livability. Charleston does well on both.
WalletHub looked at things like job growth, starting salaries, entry-level job availability, cost of living, economic mobility, and entrepreneurial activity. Charleston held its own across the board.
None of this is surprising to people who live here. The economy has diversified well over the past decade — tech, healthcare, aerospace, hospitality, defense — and the city has grown without losing the things that made it worth moving to in the first place. You can build a real career here and still be at the beach on Saturday.
For anyone considering a move to Charleston, this kind of recognition matters. It's not just a great place to visit or retire — it's a city where you can actually build something. And the earlier you buy into a market like this, the better.
