Q: Why should I buy instead of renting?
A: When you write your monthly rent check, that money is gone forever. When you own your primary residence, you can deduct the interest you pay on your mortgage loan and your property taxes from your income taxes. This is a great deduction that will save you thousands each year! In addition, the value of your home may go up over the years, if you sell it in the future and make a gain, the gain will be tax-free (as long as you have occupied the home as your primary residence for two of the last five years before the sale).
